Geneva-based designer Océane Izard’s Poo Poo Power, still a conceptual design, turns dog waste into something useful. In both cases, a biodegradable bag of dog waste is put inside a “digester,” which contains sludge-eating bacteria. As they consume the waste, the bacteria give off methane gas, which is converted into electricity. Electricity from Izard’s gadget is stored in batteries that can be detached and used around the house — now that’s pretty innovative. Izard said that poo collected from a beagle, between 250 and 340 grams of feces, could power a fan for two hours. Imagine what kind energy you could harness from an Irish Wolfhound?.
