Kakinada set to get a new port and petrochemical complex

The port town of Kakinada will be transformed into a major industrial town with the foundation laid for a new greenfield port by the Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. The port was being set up by GMR Group with an investment of Rs 3000 crore in East Godavari district at the KSEZ. A boost to the employment for the town will be brought about by a refinery and a petrochem complex generating 5000 direct and 1 lakh indirect jobs. The refinery will have a capacity of 5.70 million tonnes a year, scalable up to 9.50 MMTPA while the crude-to-chemical manufacturing complex will have a total investment of nearly Rs 63,000 crore by the Haldia Petrochemicals Ltd (HPL).
The chief minister also kick started the expansion of the ADB road from Kakinada to Rajanagaram at a cost of Rs 300 crore to improve connectivity to the Kakinada port and the port town, and inaugurated pipeline work of AP Gas Distribution Company (APGDC), to provide piped gas to households . He claimed that these four projects would change the face of Kakinada.
