Global mega trends-climate change, healthcare, food security, urbanisation, transportation, and energy, pose serious challenges before world governments. The past decade also witnessed several game changing developments that redefined industrial growth. Healthcare, energy, agriculture and other key economic sectors went through major transformations and drove far reachinginnovations within the chemical and end user industry. Technology advances have led to major shifts in the life cycle of product, product development strategies, fast changing product lines, and newer production technologies. Traditional modes of operations and strategies have become inadequate for contemporary needs. In this brief analysis the linkages between traditional and digital manufacturing, multidisciplinary skilling, sustainability literacy and systems thinking is discussed.
