Reduce hazardous operations in olefin plant operation through automation

The effluent switching from the process side to the atmosphere and vice-versa is a regular phenomenon in an olefin plant operation. Though there is the risk that hydrocarbons could get into contact with air or released into atmosphere, effluent switching is at the same time considered as one of the most critical activities and has to be performed by experienced plant personnel.

Product Description

The effluent switching from the process side to the atmosphere and vice-versa is a regular phenomenon in an olefin plant operation. Though there is the risk that hydrocarbons could get into contact with air or released into atmosphere, effluent switching is at the same time considered as one of the most critical activities and has to be performed by experienced plant personnel. This paper describes a way to increase plant safety and reduce operational risks during change over operation by increasing automation. The additional instrumentation is minimal and with the introduction of minor hardware changes even the maintenance personnel could be minimized.
