CSIR-IICT and BHEL Ink MoU to Develop Advanced Technologies

CSIR-IICT and BHEL have entered into a collaboration through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to innovate in the realm of cleaner fuel technologies. The joint initiative aims to convert carbon dioxide (CO2) into dimethyl ether (DME), a sustainable and clean alternative fuel.

The effort is part of a broader mission spearheaded by India’s department of science and technology to advance Carbon Capture and Utilization (CCU). The project’s goal is to transform CO2 directly into DME using a catalytic process, offering a way to repurpose captured CO2 into a fuel that can be mixed with LPG.

The partnership draws support from the DST, which has allocated funds specifically for developing technologies that can convert CO2 into Methanol or Dimethyl Ether. By leveraging their collective expertise, CSIR-IICT and BHEL are focusing on pioneering solutions that can significantly reduce carbon footprints and support India’s shift towards a more sustainable energy landscape.
