The Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT-B) announced the opening of its advanced 10X Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) facility. The new setup aims to convert academic research findings into viable medical solutions. Professor Subhasis Chaudhuri, Director of IIT Bombay, emphasized the facility’s role in narrowing the divide between academic achievements and their impact on society.
He highlighted that the facility will fast-track the production of innovative healthcare products, ranging from unique cancer theragnostic agents to bioactive materials for wound care, thus addressing urgent healthcare and environmental needs.
The 10X GMP facility is specifically designed to produce materials for human clinical trials, such as nanomaterials, tissue-engineered products, and drug nanoparticles, thereby hastening the introduction of essential health treatments into the marketplace.
As reported by Hindustan Times, Professor Chaudhuri also acknowledged the significant support from Raj Nair, an alumnus of IIT Bombay, whose philanthropic contributions were crucial to bringing the vision of this facility to life.
