India Advocates International Cooperation on CCUS and Green Hydrogen

At the 26th World Energy Congress in Rotterdam, India’s power secretary Pankaj Agarwal highlighted India’s commitment to carbon neutrality. He pointed out the essential roles of Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) and green hydrogen technologies and called for greater global collaboration and the adoption of cutting-edge technologies to effectively manage the world’s energy needs.

Following the COP28 UN Climate Change Conference, Agarwal detailed India’s active pursuit of its renewable energy goals, noting the key positions that CCUS and green hydrogen hold in the nation’s strategy to cut carbon emissions and enhance sustainability.

Agarwal stressed the need for joint efforts and innovation to address the energy trilemma of security, accessibility, and sustainability. He advocated for international partnerships to promote technological exchanges and financial aid, particularly for developing nations, to hasten the shift to sustainable energy sources.

As reported by the Ministry of External Affairs, Agarwal’s comments were part of wider discussions on energy innovation and cooperation at the congress, which carries the theme ‘Redesigning Energy for People and Planet’. The energy events aim was to focus on major transitions in energy and foster discussions on integrated energy systems during a period of global instability.
