Reliance Industries Partners with Nel ASA for Electrolyser Manufacturing

Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) announced partnership with Nel Hydrogen Electrolyser AS, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Nel ASA. The collaboration entails a technology licensing agreement that allows RIL to exclusively manufacture Nel’s alkaline electrolysers within India, with the capability to produce for global use.

Through the agreement, RIL will gain access to Nel’s advanced technology for manufacturing electrolysers. Both companies will also work together on enhancing performance and reducing costs through extensive research and development (R&D), value engineering, standardization, and modularization efforts to boost the competitiveness of the alkaline technology platform.

Additionally, Nel will have the opportunity to purchase equipment from RIL for its own projects, which will provide Nel with a steady revenue stream in the rapidly expanding market. Nel will continue to offer its other technology platforms in the Indian market independently.

RIL is developing the Dhirubhai Ambani Green Energy Giga Complex in Jamnagar, Gujarat, India, which spans over 5,000 acres. The complex will include several giga factories, one of which will focus on manufacturing electrolysers for green hydrogen production.

As reported by Projects Today, earlier in the year, RIL had bagged a 300 MW capacity under the government’s production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme for electrolyser manufacturing. RIL aims to begin its transition from grey and blue hydrogen to green hydrogen by 2025.
