The ministry of new and renewable energy (MNRE) has issued a directive that exempts renewable energy plants located within Special Economic Zones (SEZs) or Export Oriented Units (EOUs) from the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) requirements, provided these plants exclusively supply power for green hydrogen production.

The exemption aims to accelerate the deployment of renewable energy infrastructure crucial for green hydrogen and its derivatives in these zones. The decision, approved by the ministry for power and new and renewable energy, is intended to drive significant progress in India’s green hydrogen initiatives.

Under the ALMM regulations, solar PV modules used in Indian projects must be registered, but this requirement has been relaxed to prevent regulatory delays for projects dedicated to green hydrogen production.

The exemption applies to all relevant renewable energy projects commissioned by December 31, 2030. As reported by ETEnergyworld.com, the strategic move is expected to enhance the production capabilities of green hydrogen plants, allowing them to source power more flexibly and cost-effectively. Consequently, it will further India’s clean energy goals and its commitment to reducing carbon emissions.
