Altmin, producer of cathode active materials, is in negotiations with the Australian government to secure lithium supplies.
Managing Director Anjani Sri Mourya Sunkavalli has confirmed that discussions are underway with the Australian High Commission and the office responsible for critical minerals.
Currently, Altmin sources its lithium carbonate from Brazil and Bolivia. The previous year saw Altmin partner with Bolivia’s state-owned Yacimientos de Litio Bolivianos (YLB) to set up a plant dedicated to producing lithium iron phosphate materials, with the resulting lithium carbonate destined for Altmin’s operations in India.
The company is also considering establishing lithium refineries in both Brazil and Australia. In India, where lithium processing facilities do not currently exist, the government is providing incentives to encourage private companies to develop them.
As reported by Manufacturing Today, Sunkavalli also mentioned the exploration of spodumene supplies from Brazil and the company’s plans to open a cathode active materials plant in Hyderabad by 2025. This facility will use lithium carbonate sourced from both Brazil and Bolivia.
