GAIL Announces Ethane Cracker Project in Madhya Pradesh

GAIL (India) Ltd. unveiled plans for a major expansion in its petrochemical operations by establishing a substantial ethane cracker project in Madhya Pradesh, with a projected investment of ₹60,000 crore.

The initiative aims to produce 1,500 kilotons per annum (kta) of ethylene, significantly enhancing GAIL’s presence in the petrochemical sector. Ethane crackers play a vital role in the petrochemical industry by converting ethane, a natural gas component, into ethylene.

Ethylene serves as a fundamental raw material for producing plastics, adhesives, synthetic rubber, and various other petrochemical products. As reported by ETEnergyworld.com, GAIL also intends to construct a seventy hectare township to support the project. The commencement of commercial production is anticipated in the financial year 2030-31.
