Vedanta Aluminium Wins Award for Eco-friendly Initiatives

Vedanta Aluminium’s alumina refinery situated in Lanjigarh, Odisha has bagged the Kalinga Energy Excellence Award and the Kalinga Environment Excellence Award. The awards were presented by the Odisha State Pollution Control Board, the Institute of Public Enterprise in Hyderabad, and the Institute of Quality and Environment Management.

The Lanjigarh unit’s commitment to sustainability is reflected in Vedanta Aluminium’s ambitious goals, including achieving net zero carbon by 2050 and net water positivity by 2030.

The unit has implemented various eco-friendly initiatives such as using lithium-ion electric forklifts, adopting electric vehicles, and integrating renewable energy sources like biomass for boiler co-firing. As a result, the company’s production increased by over 20 percent while greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions intensity decreased significantly by about 9.3 percent in FY24 compared to the FY21 baseline.

In 2024, Vedanta Aluminium recycled more than 15 billion litres of water through advanced water reuse practices.

As reported by manufacturingtodayindia.com, the company ensures the profitable utilization of by-products such as fly ash and bauxite residue, with over 1,00,000 metric tons of red mud repurposed.
