IFFCO Promotes Nano Fertilizers through Model Village Clusters

Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative (IFFCO) launched Nano Fertilizer Usage Promotion Mahaabhiyan on July 1, 2024, to encourage the adoption of nano fertilizers. As part of the initiative, IFFCO has designated 200 model nano village clusters, involving farmers from 800 villages, who will receive a 25 percent subsidy on the MRP of Nano Urea Plus, Nano DAP, and Sagarika.

Additionally, IFFCO will offer a grant of ₹100 per acre to drone entrepreneurs to facilitate affordable spraying services. Farmers in these model villages will be educated on the benefits of nano fertilizers in enhancing crop quality and yield.

The government introduced a 100-day action plan aimed at increasing nano fertilizer usage. This includes 1,270 demonstrations of nano DAP (liquid) across 413 districts and 200 trials of nano urea plus (liquid) in 100 districts, with support from Krishi Vigyan Kendra, State Agricultural Universities, and other research institutions, monitored by the government.

IFFCO will distribute nano fertilizers through cooperative societies and other sales outlets, educating farmers on their advantages. The organization is also providing 2,500 agricultural drones for spraying nano fertilizers, supported by 300 ‘Namo Drone Didi’ and drone entrepreneurs.

From August 2021 to June 26, 2024, farmers have used 7.55 crore bottles of nano urea and 0.69 crore bottles of nano DAP produced by IFFCO. For 2024-25, IFFCO aims to produce four crore bottles of nano urea plus and two crore bottles of nano DAP. Since April 2024, IFFCO has provided farmers with high-concentration nano urea plus (liquid) 20% w/v N, promoting improved crop productivity and environmental sustainability.

As reported by agrospectrumindia.com, the campaign includes extensive publicity, field testing, and training for cooperative society secretaries nationwide, with collaboration from the ministry of fertilizers to replace chemical fertilizers with nano fertilizers. The plan includes distributing six crore bottles of nano fertilizers through IFFCO’s 3,6000 member cooperative societies and other cooperatives.
