Thermax, an energy and environment solutions provider, entered into a strategic collaboration with Ceres Power Limited, a subsidiary of Ceres Power Holdings plc (CWR.L), a leading innovator in clean energy technologies.
The partnership is built on a non-exclusive, global license agreement allowing Thermax to manufacture, sell, and service Stack Array Modules (SAM) based on Ceres’ Solid Oxide Electrolysis Cell (SOEC) technology.
Additionally, Thermax will develop and commercialize SAM Balance of Modules (SBM) and multi-megawatt SOEC electrolyser modules. This collaboration marks a key milestone in expanding the use of SOEC technology, enabling cost-effective green hydrogen production both in India and globally.
Leveraging its expertise in heat integration and waste heat recovery, Thermax aims to produce a pressurized SAM while also designing and engineering SBM – a vital component for scaling up multi-MW SOEC electrolyser modules.
The partnership seeks to revolutionize the hydrogen production sector, offering systems that are up to 25% more efficient than current low-temperature electrolysis methods. By effectively utilizing steam generated from industrial processes and waste heat, this solution is well-positioned to decarbonize sectors such as ammonia and fertilizer production, steel manufacturing, refineries, and chemical processing industries.
As per the press release, as part of its commercialization plan, Thermax intends to establish a manufacturing facility for the electrolysers, build a robust supply chain, and localize key components. This partnership positions Thermax among the select few companies globally capable of delivering large-scale SOEC systems for industrial applications.
