Johnson Matthey (JM), a global leader in sustainable technologies, has announced the opening of a new Engineering Centre in Mumbai, underscoring its commitment to India as a key partner in manufacturing and engineering.
The new facility aims to leverage India’s engineering expertise, enhancing JM’s capacity to deliver projects for its customers in its core licensing business as well as in emerging sectors such as hydrogen, sustainable fuels, and chemicals.
Maurits van Tol, Chief Executive for Catalyst Technologies at Johnson Matthey, stated, “India is renowned worldwide for its engineering talent and expertise. Recruiting additional talent is essential for our plans to execute more projects for our global clients in both our core licensing business and our expanding focus on low-carbon technologies.”
He added, “We are excited to continue our long-standing relationship with India and look forward to welcoming more local talent into the JM family.”
As per the press release, the new centre will contribute to India’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2070 by developing projects aimed at reducing carbon emissions in fuel, power generation, and hard-to-abate sectors. Key areas of focus will include hydrogen, sustainable fuels, sustainable methanol, and specialty chemicals.
RamsundarSolaimalai will lead the new centre, which was inaugurated at a reception held at the British High Commission in Mumbai, attended by prominent decision-makers from one of the world’s fastest-growing markets.
Harjinder Kang, His Majesty’s Trade Commissioner for South Asia and British Deputy High Commissioner for Western India, expressed his enthusiasm for Johnson Matthey’s expansion in India, stating, “I’m delighted to see that British multinational Johnson Matthey is strengthening its long-standing presence in India by establishing a new engineering centre in Mumbai. This facility, focused on providing low-carbon technology solutions globally, further demonstrates the UK’s commitment to accelerating clean growth in partnership with essential allies like India.”
JM has been active in India for 60 years and currently employs over 1,000 people across its eight operational sites in Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Haryana.
