China Energy Group Ningxia Coal Selects LyondellBasell Hostalen ACP technology

LyondellBasell licensor of polyolefin technologies, announced that China Energy Group Ningxia Coalstry Co., Ltd. (China Energy Group Ningxia Coal) has selected LYB Hostalen Advanced Cascade Process (Hostalen ACP) technology for a 300 kiloton (kt) per year high density polyethylene (HDPE) plant. The new facility will be built at Yinchuan City, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, China.

“China Energy Group Ningxia Coal selection of our technology reaffirms LYB credibility in the polyethylene market,” said Patrik Schneider, senior director global licensing and services at LYB. Schneider added, “Further, with this license, the global nameplate capacity of Hostalen ACP will exceed 13 million tons per year, which demonstrates the success of this leading technology.” 

“The selection of the Hostalen ACP low-pressure slurry process technology was key to us as in the current market environment the production capability is key to differentiate in the market,” said Zhou Jiliang, Senior Project Manager of China Energy Group Ningxia Coal. Jiliang added, “The Hostalen ACP process technology and related Ziegler catalyst chemistry allows us best to deliver on that demanding goal”.  

The Hostalen ACP process technology manufactures high performance, multi-modal HDPE resins with an industry-leading stiffness/toughness balance, impact resistance, high stress cracking resistance and process advantages used in pressure pipe, film, blow moulding and caps/closure applications.  

The Hostalen ACP plant will begin operations using Avant Z501 and Avant Z509-1 catalysts to produce a full range of multi-modal HDPE products.  

New licensees have the option of joining LYB Technical Service Program. Through this program, they can benefit from LYB in-house expertise of continuous production improvement, sustainable product development and catalyst.  

As per the press release, in addition to the Hostalen ACP process technology, LYB portfolio of licensed polyolefin processes and catalysts includes: 

Spheripol – The leading polypropylene process technology has more than 30 million tons of licensed capacity with globally recognized quality grades, leading monomer consumption and lower investment costs. 

Spherizone – The breakthrough multi-zone circulating reactor provides a unique and innovative platform to manufacture polypropylene products with novel architecture and enhanced properties. 

Lupotech – The market leader on high- pressure technology offers high conversion rates and an effective heat recovery system, resulting in the lowest operating and investment costs to produce low-density polyethylene (LDPE) and ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) copolymers. 

Metocene PP – Innovative add-on technology produces specialty polypropylene products using single-site catalyst systems. 

Avant – Advanced Ziegler-Natta, including non-phthalate, chromium and metallocene catalysts for entire range of polyolefin production.
