Fourteen major companies, including Reliance Green Hydrogen and Green Chemicals, ReNew E-Fuels, Waaree Clean Energy Solution, and Avaada Green H2, have submitted bids under the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) Scheme.
The second tranche of the scheme, also known as Mode-1-Tranche-II, offers incentives worth ₹5,400 crore to accelerate green hydrogen production.
Key Highlights of the SIGHT Scheme
The scheme provides financial incentives for producing green hydrogen, with maximum benefits structured as follows:
- ₹50 per kg in the first year
- ₹40 per kg in the second year
- ₹30 per kg in the third year
This translates to a total incentive cap of ₹5,400 crore under the second tranche.
Overwhelming Response to Technical Bids
The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI), is coordinating the process. The bidding witnessed strong participation:
- Bucket I:
Capacity Offered: 4,50,000 tons
Bids Received: 6,20,000 tonnes
- Bucket II:
Capacity Offered: 40,000 tons
Bids Received: 6,500 tons
To address the disparity in demand, SECI stated that any under-requisitioned capacity from Bucket II could be transferred to Bucket I, as per the bid document.
Leading Bidders in Bucket I
Major Companies competed for the available capacity under Bucket I. Among the top bidders:
- 90,000 tons each: Reliance Green Hydrogen and Green Chemicals, Waaree Clean Energy Solution, AM Green Ammonia (India), Green Infra Renewable Energy Farms, and L&T Energy Green Tech.
- 55,000 tons: ReNew E-Fuels.
- 45,000 tons: Avaada GreenH2.
- 20,500 tons: Ocior Energy India.
- 19,000 tons: Suryadeep KA1 Project.
- 10,500 tons: GH2 Solar.
10,000 tonnes each: Matrix Gas and Renewables, Oriana Power.
Leading Bidders in Bucket II
In Bucket II, the capacity distribution was smaller but still drew significant interest.
- 4,000 tons: ChemSepT Engineering Pvt Ltd.
- 1,500 tons: Matrix Gas and Renewables Ltd.
- 1,000 tons: Nishal Enterprises Pvt Ltd.
Aiming for 5 MMT Annual Production
India launched the National Green Hydrogen Mission in January 2023 with an ambitious initial outlay of ₹19,744 crore.
The mission targets:
- Developing a green hydrogen production capacity of at least 5 million metric tonnes (MMT) per annum.
- Adding 125 GW of renewable energy capacity.
- Under the SIGHT scheme, two financial incentives are being provided:
- Support for domestic manufacturing of electrolysers.
Incentives for green hydrogen production.
Developing Green Hydrogen Hubs
The mission also envisions pilot projects in emerging end-use sectors and innovative production pathways.
As reported by msn.com, regions with the potential for large-scale hydrogen production or utilisation will be identified and transformed into green hydrogen hubs, positioning India as a leader in the global green hydrogen market.
