Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL) has successfully commissioned its new bitumen production unit, utilizing the advanced ‘Biturox’ technology from Pörner of Austria.
The new unit, which boasts an impressive annual capacity of 1.50 lakh tons, effectively doubles MRPL’s existing bitumen production capability.
Boosting India’s Infrastructure Growth
India’s extensive highway network plays a crucial role in the nation’s development strategy, and bitumen is essential to this progress.
The country has traditionally depended on imported bitumen to meet the growing demand. Recognizing this gap, MRPL began expanding its bitumen production capacity in 2022.
Expansion and Technological Advancements
The newly commissioned plant, designed to consistently produce high-quality VG40 Bitumen, was engineered by Engineers India Limited (EIL).
It also offers the flexibility to produce VG30 and other grades as required, ensuring that MRPL can meet a variety of customer needs.
Commitment to Quality and Sustainability
It was stated by BHV Prasad, Executive Director (Projects) of MRPL, that the company is set to play a pivotal role in the region’s infrastructure growth with the launch of its new bitumen production unit. He emphasized that MRPL’s advanced technology and unwavering commitment to quality would ensure customers receive the highest-grade bitumen. This, in turn, will support the construction of durable and sustainable road networks.
Contributing to India’s Progress
India’s growth is set to receive significant contribution from MRPL’s world-class facility.
As reported by thehindubusinessline.com, MRPL will help reduce reliance on imports by increasing domestic production. This will also support the development of vital infrastructure projects across the country.
