Essar Renewables, a subsidiary of the Essar Group, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Maharashtra state government to develop 2GW of renewable energy capacity.
The substantial investment of ₹80 billion will support the state’s electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. It will particularly benefit EV trucks operated by Blue Energy Motors and Greenline.
Focus on Round-the-Clock Renewable Energy
The projects will focus on delivering round-the-clock renewable energy solutions to ensure seamless support for Maharashtra’s green mobility ecosystem.
Essar Renewables aims to exceed 8GW of renewable energy capacity by 2029, aligning with its broader strategy to lead the energy transition.

The ambitious investment will not only contribute to Maharashtra’s green energy transition but also enhance the state’s economic growth. The renewable energy projects are slated to commence in the fiscal year 2026/27.
Essar’s Global Green Energy Expansion
In January 2025, Essar Energy Transition (EET) Hydrogen achieved a significant milestone. It signed an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract with ENKA for its flagship low-carbon hydrogen production plant in Ellesmere Port, UK.
The plant has a capacity of 350MW. It is designed to capture 600,000 tons of CO₂ annually. This marks a pivotal step in Essar’s global commitment to sustainable energy solutions.
