Hygenco Green Energies Pvt Ltd, a leader in developing green hydrogen and green ammonia assets, has secured the Renewable Fuel of Non-Biological Origin (RFNBO) pre-certification from Bureau Veritas under the CertifHy scheme.
The achievement positions Hygenco as one of only two Indian firms to earn this coveted certification.
The CertifHy scheme, officially recognized by the European Commission, provides a robust framework for certifying renewable hydrogen and e-fuels. It ensures compliance with EU regulations and international standards, enabling end-users across the EU to access certified green or low-carbon hydrogen.
Bureau Veritas, a globally trusted testing agency, audited Hygenco’s processes to confirm adherence to these rigorous standards.
Paving the Way for EU Exports
The pre-certification allows Hygenco to export green ammonia to the European Union, aligning with its mission to deliver sustainable energy solutions and contribute to global decarbonization.
Amit Bansal, Co-Founder and CEO of Hygenco said, “Securing the RFNBO pre-certification for our green ammonia marks a pivotal milestone in our journey to drive the energy transition and support global decarbonization efforts. We are committed to leveraging cutting-edge technology to produce low-cost, sustainable green ammonia for our clients worldwide”.
Upcoming Green Ammonia Plant in Odisha
Hygenco is gearing up to launch a state-of-the-art green ammonia plant at Tata Steel’s Special Economic Zone Industrial Park in Gopalpur, Odisha.
Upon completion, the plant will have an annual production capacity of 1.1 million tons.
The project, planned in phases, includes Phase 1 and Phase 2, each designed to produce 600 tons per day. The first phase is expected to become operational by 2027.
Support from Bureau Veritas
Amit Ghosh, Senior Vice President of Bureau Veritas South Asia Region remarked, “The European Commission’s RFNBO regulations will impact not just hydrogen producers in Europe but also global producers aiming to access the European market. Pre-certification of Green Hydrogen Projects, including derivatives, is the most effective way to ensure compliance with these regulations. At Bureau Veritas, we are proud to play a central role in advancing renewable hydrogen and its derivatives ecosystem”.
Boosting Global Decarbonization Efforts
The RFNBO pre-certification reinforces Hygenco’s reputation as a pioneer in renewable energy and unlocks opportunities in European markets.
It aligns seamlessly with the EU’s Renewable Energy Directive (RED III) targets. It also supports global efforts to curb greenhouse gas emissions.
According to the press release, the milestone firmly places Hygenco at the forefront of the green ammonia industry. It advances the company’s vision for a sustainable energy future. It also fosters innovation in the global transition to low-carbon energy solutions.
