Specialty chemicals company LANXESS introduces a highly sustainable variant of its bayferrox iron oxide yellow pigment.
The new pigments, marketed under the scopeblue label, have a significantly reduced carbon footprint due to the use of more eco-efficient raw materials.
The initiative aligns with the increasing focus on reducing the product carbon footprint (PCF) in the paint and coatings industry, driving demand for sustainably manufactured pigments.
Commitment to Low-Emission Pigments
As part of its sustainability strategy, LANXESS is gradually introducing scopeblue product lines.
The scopeblue label identifies products made from a high proportion of sustainable raw materials with a significantly lower carbon footprint compared to conventional alternatives.
“With our new low-emission yellow pigment product line under the Bayferrox brand, we aim to help our customers enhance sustainability within their value chains,” said Daniela Schmitt, Head of Global Marketing at LANXESS Inorganic Pigments.
Schmitt added, “As a pioneer in environmental product declarations for iron oxide pigments, LANXESS continues to lead the way in sustainable innovations.”
Sustainable Production with Uncompromised Quality
As per the press release, the scopeblue product line includes micronized iron oxide yellow pigments bayferrox 3910, 3910 LV, and 3920.
The pigments are ideal for high-quality formulations, such as pigment pastes and highly pigmented facade paints. They offer excellent potential for sustainable products.
Produced using eco-efficient raw materials based on renewable energy, Scopeblue pigments have a lower PCF.
Their PCF is approximately 35% lower than conventional counterparts.
TÜV Rheinland has certified this reduction through a life cycle analysis. Additionally, the use of lower-emission raw materials follows ISCC Plus certification standards via the mass balance method.
Seamless Integration into Existing Systems
All bayferrox scopeblue pigments retain the same chemical composition, color, and functional properties as traditionally manufactured bayferrox pigments.
They can be seamlessly incorporated into existing paint systems, making the transition to sustainable solutions easier for customers.
