The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), in collaboration with the British Standards Institution (BSI) and the UK government’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), organized a two-day workshop on Green Hydrogen.
The event aimed to enhance India-UK cooperation in hydrogen standardization. It focused on Green Hydrogen Production and Regulations, according to an official statement.
Promoting International Cooperation in Clean Energy
Abbey Dorian, Energy Sector Lead at BSI, emphasized the significance of international collaboration in achieving clean energy transitions.
She stated, “The India-UK Standards Partnership Workshop on Green Hydrogen marks a milestone in fostering international cooperation for achieving clean energy transitions. It serves as a testament to the importance of knowledge exchange, standardization, and innovation in building a sustainable hydrogen market”.
Dorian also highlighted the shared ambition of India and the UK to become global leaders in green hydrogen, aligning with their net-zero commitments.
Advancing Standardization for Hydrogen Development
The workshop was part of the UK government’s Standards Partnership programme, which seeks to promote the adoption of international standards in India.
The initiative aims to accelerate economic growth and attract investments. It also seeks to enhance trade by establishing safe, scalable, and globally harmonized Regulations, Codes, and Standards (RCS).
The discussions also covered the adoption of fast-track Publicly Available Specification (PAS) standards and global hydrogen certification.
Supporting India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission
The workshop reinforced BIS’s efforts under the National Green Hydrogen Mission. It focused on identifying gaps in current standards and exploring new areas for development. Participants gained valuable insights from global best practices, which will help improve India’s certification, testing, and standardization processes. These efforts will contribute to building a sustainable and competitive green hydrogen economy.
Expert Discussions and Key Participants
The event featured thought-provoking discussions led by policymakers, technical experts, and industry leaders from India and the UK.
Rajiv Sharma, Deputy Director General (Standardisation-I) at BIS, inaugurated the workshop. Laura Aylett, Head of Climate and Energy at the British High Commission, and Abbey Dorian also joined the inauguration.
Their presence underscored the shared vision of India and the UK to drive innovation and sustainability in the green hydrogen sector.
As reported by newkerala.com, this workshop strengthens cooperation and aligns regulations. These efforts pave the way for a robust and globally competitive hydrogen market.
