Henkel has launched a state-of-the-art Application Engineering Centre in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, further strengthening its leadership in the electronics sector. The facility enhances Henkel’s adhesive technologies business by accelerating new product introductions (NPIs) and reducing time-to-market for customers.
The 17,000 sq. ft. facility features five specialized labs. These labs focus on advanced adhesive solutions and thermal management materials, improving the reliability, durability, and design of smartphones, wearables, and other consumer electronics.
Equipped with cutting-edge dispensing systems, vacuum impregnation technologies for device waterproofing, and high-precision material analysis tools, the centre enables rapid prototyping, proof-of-concept testing, and product validation. The investment expands Henkel’s global innovation footprint, complementing its existing sites in Germany, the US, China, Singapore, Japan, Korea, and Vietnam.
New Adhesive Materials Plant in Kurkumbh
Henkel is also establishing an adhesive materials manufacturing plant at its multi-technology manufacturing site in Kurkumbh, near Pune. This investment highlights the company’s commitment to localization, innovation, and fast-tracked product development to meet the growing demands of India’s electronics industry. The sector is expanding, driven by government initiatives like Make in India and the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes. Henkel is strategically positioned to support this rapid growth.
Strengthening Regional Supply Chain Resilience
“As India cements its position as a global electronics manufacturing hub, Henkel is proud to reinforce its ‘Make in India’ commitment and play a key role in this transformation,” said S Sunil Kumar, Country President – India, Henkel.
Kumar added, “Our new facilities in Chennai and Kurkumbh align with this growth, enhancing regional self-sufficiency and supply chain resilience. This milestone enables us to better serve our global customers while expanding our footprint in the region. It highlights our commitment to fostering long-term partnerships, driving innovation, and creating value”.
Meeting Customers’ Growing Needs
Wen Zhou, Corporate Vice President – Electronics, Henkel Adhesive Technologies, emphasized the importance of these investments. “Henkel meets our customers where they are,” said Zhou.
Zhou added, “We have been operating in India for a long time, and as our customers expand their presence, we are strengthening our local capabilities. This allows us to offer collaborative NPI and product validation expertise with greater immediacy”.
Enhancing Capabilities with Smart Manufacturing
According to Henkel’s press release, the new Kurkumbh plant will strengthen its capabilities. It will enhance the delivery of high-performance adhesive and coating solutions.
Additionally, the facility will leverage an Industry 4.0-based smart factory system. This system improves operational efficiency, enhances product quality, and reduces downtime. With these advancements, Henkel continues to demonstrate its commitment to innovation, localization, and supporting India’s growing electronics sector.
