Lummus and Resynergi Launch Commercial Microwave-Powered Plastic Pyrolysis Technology

Lummus Technology, a global player in process technologies and energy solutions, and Resynergi, a pioneer in modular plastic recycling, have announced the commercial availability of Resynergi’s Continuous Microwave Assisted Pyrolysis (CMAP) Modules.

Since forming the partnership in 2024, the companies have rapidly advanced the development and commercialization of CMAP technology. This innovative solution converts plastic waste into circular pyrolysis products much faster than traditional methods. It also operates with greater efficiency, enhancing the overall process.

Advancing the Circular Economy

“This milestone highlights how Lummus and Resynergi are driving sustainability by making plastic waste conversion easier and faster with a decentralized solution,” said Leon de Bruyn, President and CEO of Lummus Technology.

Bruyn added, “Now that the technology is commercially available, we can collaborate with customers to integrate it into existing infrastructure. This will help close the loop on plastic waste and enhance sustainability across the industry.”

Microwave-Powered Pyrolysis: A Game Changer

Unlike conventional pyrolysis, Resynergi’s CMAP Modules utilize microwave energy to break down plastic molecules more rapidly while reducing CO2 emissions compared to traditional polymer production. The technology’s modular design allows for quick deployment, enabling installations and operations within months instead of years. Lummus will fabricate and supply the modules by leveraging its extensive global fabrication network and decades of experience in modular and proprietary equipment.

Providing Scalable and Immediate Recycling Solutions

“The world cannot afford to wait for large-scale factories and recycling facilities to process mounting plastic waste,” said Brian Bauer, CEO of Resynergi.

Bauer added, “The commercial launch of our modules marks a crucial step toward making plastic recycling faster, more viable, and more impactful. Partnering with Lummus Technology ensures that our technology reaches the market efficiently, making advanced recycling profitable, safe, and environmentally friendly for local municipalities.”

Integrating Digital Capabilities for Smart Operations

Resynergi’s CMAP Modules also incorporate digital innovations from Lummus Digital, a joint venture between Lummus Technology and TCG Digital. These capabilities enable real-time data collection, machine learning, and artificial intelligence-driven monitoring. Operators can access real-time insights, expert guidance, and remote support, ensuring reliable and sustainable module operations.

As per the press release, with this commercial launch, Lummus and Resynergi are making significant strides toward a cleaner, circular future for plastics recycling.
