HFE’s Green Hydrogen Plant to be Built in Tirupati

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu virtually inaugurated Hero Future Energies’ (HFE) ₹1,000-crore green hydrogen plant at Rockman Industries in Tirupati. The state-of-the-art facility represents a major step forward in India’s clean energy transition.

Pioneering Industrial Decarbonization

The HFE plant blends green hydrogen with Piped Natural Gas (PNG) and Liquefied Natural Gas (LPG) to support industrial heating applications. Highlighting the project’s significance, Naidu shared, “This first-of-its-kind green hydrogen plant in Tirupati marks a breakthrough in industrial decarbonization. By blending green hydrogen with LPG and PNG, it offers a sustainable solution for industrial energy consumption”.

Advanced Technology and Renewable Power

The plant features a 300 kW Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) electrolyser, powered by a 1.1 MWp rooftop solar plant. This setup enables the blending of up to 10% green hydrogen in LPG and 3% in PNG, ensuring cleaner energy use in industries.

Employment and Expansion Plans

Currently, the plant produces 25 TPA (tons per annum) of green hydrogen. HFE also plans to expand production capacity to 54 TPA, reinforcing the company’s commitment to sustainability and industrial innovation.

Environmental Impact and Carbon Reduction

The green hydrogen plant is expected to cut carbon dioxide emissions by 206 TPA while releasing up to 195 TPA of oxygen into the atmosphere. These environmental benefits align with global climate goals and support India’s net-zero ambitions.

A Model for India’s Clean Energy Future

The initiative sets a benchmark for India’s energy transition. The success provides a blueprint for industries such as glass, steel, petrochemicals, and chemicals to integrate hydrogen-based solutions without extensive infrastructure changes.

Commitment to Green Energy Leadership

The recently introduced Andhra Pradesh Integrated Clean Energy Policy – 2024 aims to add over 160 GW of renewable energy capacity and attract up to $119 billion in investments within the next five years.

Andhra Pradesh as a Global Green Hydrogen Hub

With its strategic coastal advantages, deep-sea ports, robust logistics network, and industry-friendly policies, Andhra Pradesh is well-positioned to become a global leader in green hydrogen exports. As reported by msn.com, the initiative strengthens Andhra Pradesh’s role in India’s sustainable energy transformation and paves the way for broader adoption of hydrogen-based solutions across industries.
