Vedanta Aluminium Unveils First Smelter Line Operated by Women

Vedanta Aluminium is advancing gender diversity by transforming a smelter line at its Jharsuguda plant into a fully women-operated facility. The initiative aligns with the company’s goal of achieving thirty percent female representation in its workforce by FY30.

Women Take the Lead in Aluminium Production

One of the world’s largest smelters, the Jharsuguda plant, now features a potline exclusively managed by women. The company is rolling out this transition in three phases, selecting over 100 women employees through internal job postings and specialized training programs. By placing women in key manufacturing roles, Vedanta is actively challenging industry stereotypes and fostering inclusivity in the traditionally male-dominated metals and mining sector.

Breaking Barriers in Core Manufacturing

Vedanta Aluminium is committed to making all roles, including those in core manufacturing, accessible to women. The company has already increased female participation across various departments and continues to drive gender neutrality in the workplace.

To further support women in the industry, Vedanta runs initiatives like Project Shree Shakti and Project Panchhi, which provide training, leadership opportunities, and financial aid for higher education.

A Vision for a More Inclusive Future

By prioritizing gender diversity, Vedanta Aluminium is setting a new benchmark for inclusion and operational excellence. As reported by manufacturingtodayindia.com, the company aims to recruit more women, targeting 50% female representation in fresher roles while steadily working toward its goal of 30% women in the workforce by FY30.
