Larsen & Toubro’s (L&T) Water and Effluent Treatment (WET) Business, in partnership with Spain’s Lantania, has secured a contract from ACWA Power to build the Ras Mohaisen Desalination Plant in Saudi Arabia. L&T leads the joint venture, reinforcing its position as a key player in the region’s water infrastructure sector.
Project Scope and Capacity
The Ras Mohaisen Desalination Plant will have a daily capacity of 3,00,000 cubic meters. The project covers the design, procurement, construction, testing, and commissioning of a seawater reverse osmosis desalination facility.
Key Infrastructure Components
The project includes:
- Intake and outfall facilities
- Advanced process units and pumping stations
- A 600,000 cubic meter potable water storage system
- Electrical and special facilities
- State-of-the-art automation and instrumentation systems
- A Solar PV plant to support sustainable operations
- Providing Drinking Water to a Million People
Once operational, the desalination project will supply drinking water to the Makkah Al-Mukarramah and Al-Baha regions, benefiting approximately one million residents.
Strengthening L&T’s Presence in the Middle East
This marks L&T’s second recent desalination project in Saudi Arabia, further strengthening WET’s footprint in the Middle East. As per the press release, the contract aligns with WET’s strategy to expand across business-friendly regions and enhance its expertise in water treatment solutions.
