Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel virtually inaugurated India’s largest chlorotoluene plant in Dahej, established by Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals Limited (GACL). Built at a cost of ₹350 crore, the facility will produce key chlorine-based chemicals such as benzyl chloride, benzyl alcohol, and benzaldehyde. The expansion strengthens Gujarat’s position as a hub for chemical manufacturing and boosts exports to international markets.
Enhancing Production and Export Capabilities
With an annual production capacity of 30,000 tons, the plant is set to significantly enhance India’s chemical exports, particularly to Europe, America, and South Asia. GACL expects the facility to generate approximately ₹130 crore in foreign exchange, further strengthening the country’s trade position in the global chemical market. By utilizing chlorine to manufacture high-value products, GACL continues to contribute to Gujarat’s industrial growth and employment generation.
GACL’s Legacy and Expanding Production
Established in 1973, GACL has grown into a leading chemical manufacturer in India. Executive Managing Director Avantika Singh, highlighted that GACL operates three production units – two in Dahej and one in Vadodara – manufacturing over 35 chemical products, including caustic soda.
Over the past five decades, GACL has consistently expanded its production capacity and product portfolio. The company produces over eight lakh metric tons of caustic soda annually and remains India’s sole manufacturer of sodium chlorate and hydrazine hydrate.
Strengthening India’s Chemical Industry
The chlorotoluene plant reinforces GACL’s commitment to innovation and industrial growth. As reported by newkerala.com, by integrating advanced manufacturing processes, the company continues to support India’s chemical industry while contributing to Gujarat’s vision of becoming a global chemical production leader.
