Andhra Pradesh Minister Nara Lokesh laid the foundation stone for Reliance’s first Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) plant in Kanigiri, Prakasam district. The project, with an investment of ₹139 crores, is the first of 500 planned CBG plants across the state. The initiative is part of Reliance’s ambitious ₹65,000 crore investment to drive clean energy production in Andhra Pradesh.
Innovative Technology and Sustainable Farming
The Kanigiri plant will utilize cutting-edge technology to convert Napier grass, cultivated on barren and waste lands, into bio-gas. The approach will not only promote sustainable energy but also generate income for farmers. Farmers will receive lease revenues for their land and a fixed price for the grass they grow, ensuring steady financial support for the rural economy.
Massive Land Utilization for Green Energy
Reliance has committed to developing integrated CBG plant across Andhra Pradesh. Around 5,00,000 acres of barren and waste lands in Prakasam, Anantapur, Chittoor, and Kadapa districts will be transformed into productive agricultural zones for bioenergy production. Once fully operational, these plants will generate 40 lakh tons of clean CBG and 1.1 million metric tons of organic fertilizer annually.
Transforming Agriculture and Farmer Incomes
Reliance Executive Director P. M. S. Prasad, stated, “The project is not just about energy production; it is about community upliftment and economic growth. By equipping our farmers—our ANNA DAATAS—with advanced technology, we will enable them to become URJA DAATAS, powering India’s green future”.
Boosting Sustainable Farming and Soil Fertility
A key byproduct of these CBG plants will be one crore tons of fermented organic manure. This will help farmers reduce their dependence on chemical fertilizers. This initiative will restore fertility to 15 lakh acres of barren land, increasing agricultural productivity and enhancing farmer incomes.
A Shared Vision for a Sustainable Future
Reliance and the Andhra Pradesh government share a vision to position the state as a leader in clean energy. “This bioenergy project is a significant step towards that goal. Together, we will turn waste into green wealth, energy into empowerment, and land into livelihood,” Prasad concluded.
As per the press release, this ambitious initiative is paving the way for a cleaner, greener future in Andhra Pradesh. It reinforces the state’s commitment to sustainable energy and rural development.
