In a significant step toward self-reliant semiconductor manufacturing, the foundation stone for India’s first gallium nitride (GaN)-based chip plant was laid in Nava Raipur. Polymatech Electronics is developing the facility.

Massive Investment to Power India’s Chip Ambitions

Polymatech Electronics MD and CEO Eshwara Rao Nandam announced an expansion plan, committing an additional ₹10,000 crore investment in the state. The first phase of the project, backed by ₹1,143 crore, will kick-start production of 10 billion chips annually by 2030.

Polymatech Electronics will build these advanced chips using cutting-edge 5nm and 3nm technology nodes, positioning India alongside global leaders in semiconductor innovation.

Boosting Self-Reliance in Telecom and Tech Infrastructure

The upcoming facility will also house a telecom device packaging unit. This unit will play a crucial role in reducing India’s dependence on imported components. It aims to support critical infrastructure for telecom, IoT, and satellite communications.

“The chips manufactured here will power everyday electronics. They will also drive next-generation 5G and 6G networks, high-performance laptops, defense systems, data centers, and power electronics,” noted Nandam.

Strategic Move Toward Tech Sovereignty

The initiative aligns seamlessly with India’s mission to reduce semiconductor imports and build indigenous capacity in advanced electronics. GaN-based technology offers superior power efficiency and miniaturization. It marks a significant leap forward for sectors ranging from consumer tech to national defense.

Chhattisgarh at the Forefront of India’s Tech Future

With this high-impact project, Chhattisgarh is emerging as a key player in India’s semiconductor roadmap. Projectstoday.com reports that the country, eyeing a future of digital dominance, will make this plant a cornerstone of its technological transformation.
