Genesis Fertilizers has signed a Process Design Package (PDP) and License Agreement with thyssenkrupp Uhde, a global player in ammonia production technology. The strategic partnership marks a pivotal step toward building Western Canada’s first low-carbon nitrogen fertilizer facility, focused on sustainability, innovation, and delivering real value to farmers.

Powering Fertilizer with Cutting-Edge Technology

At the core of nitrogen fertilizer production is ammonia—the essential ingredient for agricultural productivity. By integrating thyssenkrupp Uhde’s advanced uhde® ammonia technology, Genesis Fertilizers will tap into a high-efficiency, low-emission process that ensures consistent nitrogen output. This proven technology supports Genesis’ vision of a stable, locally sourced fertilizer supply tailored to the needs of Western Canadian farmers.

“Our collaboration with thyssenkrupp Uhde exemplifies the caliber of innovation and expertise that Genesis Fertilizers is bringing to this transformative project,” said Jason Mann, CEO, Genesis Fertilizers.

“Their advanced uhde® technology boosts efficiency and supports our sustainability goals, ensuring Canadian farmers get reliable, high-quality fertilizer,” added Mann.

Sustainable by Design

Thyssenkrupp Uhde’s proprietary uhde® ammonia process combines nitrogen from the air with hydrogen derived from natural gas. This method minimizes energy use, reduces emissions, and stabilizes production costs. These benefits are especially critical for agriculture, where cost efficiency and environmental responsibility go hand-in-hand.

Delivering Tangible Benefits to Farmers

For Western Canadian growers, the partnership promises multiple long-term advantages:

  • Stable Supply: A local production facility reduces dependence on volatile international fertilizer markets.
  • Predictable Pricing: Enhanced process efficiency supports consistent pricing, helping farmers plan with confidence.
  • Lower Carbon Footprint: Reduced emissions align with farmers’ growing environmental commitments and regulatory expectations.

Building a Resilient Agricultural Future

The collaboration goes beyond technology. It represents a major step toward creating a resilient, farmer-first fertilizer supply chain rooted in sustainability and performance. Genesis Fertilizers is laying the groundwork for a future where Canadian agriculture thrives with reliable, environmentally responsible inputs.

On Track for 2029 Launch

Genesis Fertilizers remains firmly on track with development milestones, targeting commercial operations by 2029. As per the press release, the company is committed to transparency as the project progresses. It will also maintain ongoing engagement with the farming community, ensuring that growers remain at the heart of this transformative journey.
