Italian solar equipment manufacturer Ecoprogetti has launched a fully automated recycling line designed for end-of-life solar panels. The company describes the system as a truly industrial, continuous-operation solution offering high reliability and productivity.
Deployed Across Southern Europe
Since 2024, Ecoprogetti has shipped more than one system per month, with active installations now operating in Italy, Spain, Greece, and other parts of Southern Europe. The recycling plants are tailored to process both double-glass and glass-backsheet solar modules.
Flexible, Scalable Design with Barcode Tracking
The system’s adjustable configuration allows it to handle different panel sizes, while a barcode traceability system ensures precise material tracking throughout the process. The line includes seven integrated machines, each performing a specific stage of the recycling operation.
High Throughput with Lower Energy Demand
Ecoprogetti’s system can recycle up to 60 panels per hour, while consuming 40% less energy compared to similar technologies. This balance between energy efficiency and capacity helps reduce operational costs and environmental impact.
Compact Footprint and Quick ROI
The recycling line requires 500 square meters of space, 160 kW of power, and just two operators. Ecoprogetti claims a payback period of one to two years, making it an attractive option for PV waste management.
Addressing a Global Challenge
With up to 80 million tons of solar panels projected to reach end-of-life by 2050, according to IRENA, Ecoprogetti’s solution addresses a critical need. As reported by pv-magazine-india.com, in Italy alone, PV waste is expected to hit 2.2 million tons by that year, highlighting the urgency for scalable recycling infrastructure.
