Essar Future Energy Plans Biofuel Manufacturing Hub in Gujarat

Essar Future Energy has submitted a Terms of Reference (ToR) application for a proposed Greenfield Biofuel Complex in Kajurda Village, Khambhaliya Taluka, Dev Bhumi Dwarka district, Gujarat. The project is designed to have a production capacity of one million metric tons per annum (MMTPA), marking a significant step in the company’s clean energy transition efforts.

Revised Land Area with Core Layout Unchanged

Essar revised the total project area from 84.736 hectares to 54 hectares, keeping the core layout of the biofuel complex intact. The changes primarily affect the expansion and greenbelt zones, while the facility’s operational footprint stays the same.

Environmental Clearance and Impact Assessment in Progress

As part of regulatory procedures, Essar has requested environmental clearance (EC) and will prepare a comprehensive Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report. This report will also include necessary environmental management measures to ensure compliance with sustainability norms and ecological safeguards.

Sustainable Feedstocks and Clean Fuel Production

The proposed facility will rely on biogenic and non-edible feedstocks, including:

*Used Cooking Oil (UCO)

*Palm Oil Mill Effluent (POME)

*Other sustainably sourced materials

The plant is expected to produce a range of low-carbon fuels, such as:

*Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF)

*Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO)

*Naphtha, along with fuel gas as a by-product

These outputs align with India’s growing push for decarbonization in transport and industrial sectors.

Kadam Environmental Consultants Appointed for EIA

Essar Future Energy has appointed Kadam Environmental Consultants, a firm accredited by NABET/QCI, to lead the EIA study. As reported by projectstoday.com, the consultants will evaluate the project’s potential impacts and develop appropriate mitigation strategies to ensure environmental compliance.
