Oil India Ltd (OIL) has commenced natural gas production from the Bakhritibba Discovered Small Field (DSF) Block in Jaisalmer District, Rajasthan. The development marks a major milestone under the DSF-III bidding round, underscoring OIL’s swift project execution and commitment to enhancing domestic energy output.
Swift Project Execution within Tight Deadlines
OIL drilled three MWP wells within the mandated development timeline. The operation has already achieved an initial production rate of 67,200 standard cubic metres per day (scmd). Plans are underway to scale production to 100 million scmd in the coming months, significantly boosting local gas availability.
Resilient Operations in Harsh Terrain
OIL’s field teams executed the Bakhritibba project under extreme desert conditions, highlighting their technical expertise and determination. This success showcases the company’s ability to overcome environmental and logistical challenges in frontier regions.
Driving India’s Energy Security and Sustainability Goals
The rapid monetisation of the DSF block reflects OIL’s broader commitment to India’s energy security strategy by unlocking unconventional and marginal reserves. This initiative supports the national objective of:
*Increasing domestic gas production
*Reducing import dependence
*Transitioning to a cleaner energy mix
Boosting Regional Economy and Infrastructure
Beyond energy goals, the Bakhritibba gas project is expected to stimulate economic activity in the region and contribute to the development of critical infrastructure. As reported by projectstoday.com, OIL is making strategic investments in marginal fields. These efforts continue to play a pivotal role in strengthening India’s energy landscape.
