Advanta Brazil Gains from $125 Million Serra Bonita Sale

Advanta Brazil, a part of the UPL Group and a global player in seed innovation, has announced a major milestone through its associate company Serra Bonita Sementes S.A. (Serra Bonita). Advanta holds a 33% equity stake in the Brazilian seed firm. The company has signed a definitive agreement to sell all its assets for $125 million, subject to customary closing adjustments.

Strategic Move to Optimize Portfolio and Unlock Value

UPL has strategically divested to optimize its asset portfolio and unlock long-term value. Serra Bonita will receive the full sale proceeds and is expected to distribute them to its shareholders, including Advanta Brazil, over the coming months. Until it completes the distribution and formally winds up, Advanta will continue to account for Serra Bonita as an associate.

Strengthening Ties with the Roquetto Group

This move deepens UPL and Advanta’s long-standing relationship with José Paulo Roquetto and his group of companies—a leading name in Brazilian agribusiness. Marcio Boralli, Serra Bonita Board Member and Country Manager for Advanta Brazil, noted, “This is not just a divestment; it is a strategic step that reinforces our partnership with the Roquetto Group.”

UPL and Advanta will continue to work closely with the Roquetto Group. They aim to ensure that UPL’s crop protection and seed technologies remain embedded in ongoing farming operations. The partnership also offers promising opportunities for expanded deployment.

Driving Sustainable Innovation in Seeds

Fibre2fashion.com reports that Advanta operates as a global business within UPL, developing and commercializing high-performance, climate-smart seeds. Advanta designs these innovations to address climate variability and promote regenerative agriculture. The strengthened collaboration with the Roquetto Group highlights UPL’s and Advanta’s strong commitment to advancing sustainable farming practices across Brazil.
