Uno Minda has announced plans to set up a greenfield aluminium die casting facility in Sambhaji Nagar (Aurangabad), Maharashtra, following approval from its board of directors. The move comes in response to the rising demand for lightweight, high-performance components in the electric vehicle (EV) sector—particularly for electric two-wheelers (e-2Ws) and four-wheelers (e-4Ws).
Investment Plan and Phased Rollout
Uno Minda will invest approximately ₹210 crore in the project and roll it out in multiple phases over five years. The company will fund the expansion through a balanced mix of internal accruals and debt. It aims to commence Phase 1 operations by Q2 of FY27.
Boosting Die Casting Capabilities for EVs
EV platforms require significantly more aluminium-based structural and thermal components compared to traditional internal combustion vehicles. With this new facility, Uno Minda will significantly enhance its advanced die casting capabilities, supporting both powertrain and body applications critical to EV performance and efficiency.
Strengthening Backward Integration Strategy
The upcoming die casting plant is a key element in Uno Minda’s backward integration plan. It will supply essential components to the company’s new four-wheeler EV powertrain facility. This will ensure greater control over quality, cost, and supply chain timelines.
Optimised Location for OEM Supply
Strategically located in Maharashtra, the facility is positioned to provide efficient logistical access to major OEM clients across the region. This strengthens Uno Minda’s ability to serve its customers promptly and competitively.
Commitment to Innovation and Sustainability
The expansion reflects Uno Minda’s continued commitment to innovation and sustainable manufacturing. As reported by projects today, by investing in next-generation capabilities, the company is reinforcing its leadership role in India’s fast-evolving EV ecosystem.
