BASF announced senior leadership changes within its global Electronic Materials business unit, alongside a strategic decision to base the business in Taipei, Taiwan, effective July 1, 2025. The relocation aims to reinforce the company’s proximity to key semiconductor hubs and to better serve its customers across East Asia and the United States.
The move capitalizes on Taiwan’s status as a global center for semiconductor innovation and manufacturing, strengthening BASF’s ability to innovate, respond quickly to market needs, and deepen customer engagement—particularly in the semiconductor, display, and specialized metal systems industries.
Jens Liebermann to Lead Global Electronic Materials Business
Starting July 1, 2025, Jens Liebermann will take over as Senior Vice President of BASF’s global Electronic Materials business. Jens currently serves as Vice President of Global Business Management Semiconductor Materials and Managing Director of BASF Taiwan.
In his new role, Liebermann will bring his extensive expertise in the semiconductor sector, along with a strong record of advancing customer-focused strategies. His leadership is expected to drive the unit’s long-term growth and innovation, especially as the semiconductor industry rapidly evolves.
Tribute to Dr. Lothar Laupichler on His Retirement
Dr. Lothar Laupichler, who has led the Electronic Materials business since 2012, will retire after 32 years at BASF. During his tenure, Dr. Laupichler played a pivotal role in strengthening BASF’s capabilities in serving advanced semiconductor, display, and metal systems customers.

Dr. Moritz Ehrenstein to Succeed Liebermann in Key Role
In tandem with these changes, Dr. Moritz Ehrenstein, currently Managing Director at Rolic Technologies and head of BASF’s Display Materials segment, will succeed Jens Liebermann as Vice President, Global Business Management Semiconductor Materials in Taiwan.
Dr. Ehrenstein brings deep industry knowledge, particularly in R&D for innovative technologies. Before leading the Display Materials business, he was responsible for global sales management within BASF’s semiconductor materials portfolio.
