Worley has received full notice to proceed on the first phase of Venture Global $28 billion CP2 LNG export facility in Louisiana, marking a major step in the development of one of the world’s largest LNG projects. With the final investment decision (FID) now in place, Worley will now begin full-scale engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) activities.
From Conditional Approval to Full Mobilization
The CP2 LNG project is located on a sprawling 1,150-acre site along the Calcasieu Ship Channel in Cameron Parish, Louisiana. It is Venture Global’s third LNG export facility in the United States in just five years. The company received conditional approval to export LNG to non-FTA countries, which paved the way for site work and full mobilization to begin. Now, with the go-ahead secured, Worley is transitioning from limited-scope planning to full execution of the reimbursable EPC contract. The work is being led by Worley’s teams in Houston and Reading, with robust support from its Global Integrated Delivery (GID) team.
Boosting Global Energy Supply by 2027
Venture Global expects to make CP2 fully operational by 2027, significantly boosting global LNG supply and supporting energy security. With this milestone, Worley has begun mobilizing its workforce to site and is actively ramping up efforts to deliver the initial phase of the terminal.
Economic Impact on Louisiana
The CP2 project will generate over $4 billion in local property tax revenue. It will also create thousands of new jobs during construction and operation. In addition, the CP Express pipeline is a critical infrastructure component originating in Jasper and Newton Counties in Texas. It will feed natural gas directly to the facility.
Worley’s Role and Capabilities
Offshore-energy.biz reports that Worley has already led EPC planning and early-stage site activities under a limited notice to proceed. With full notice now granted, the Australian engineering firm is preparing to deliver the project’s first chapter. It will leverage its extensive expertise in managing large-scale, technically complex energy infrastructure.
Chris Ashton, CEO, Worley, stated, “We are pleased that Venture Global has reached this significant milestone. CP2 is a strategically important project for global energy supply and security, and we are proud to be working with Venture Global as their project delivery partner. Our engagement on this opportunity further affirms our capabilities and deep expertise in delivering complex, large-scale projects.”
