Covestro expanded production of its NIA-PFAS (non-intentionally added PFAS) super-durable flexible powder coating polyesters – Uralac® Premium P 8000 and P 9000 – to the Asia-Pacific region. This move responds to both global climate challenges and the tightening of regulatory requirements surrounding PFAS.
The company’s Pingtung site in Taiwan will now supply this next-generation environmental solution, offering localized production that reduces carbon emissions from long-distance transport. The initiative aligns with Covestro’s “Sustainable Future” strategy and its commitment to achieve Scope 3 climate neutrality by 2050.
Outperforming Conventional Coatings
Covestro’s advanced coating resins outperform traditional super-durable polyesters by extending the service life of GSB Premium building materials and heavy-duty equipment used in agriculture, construction, and earth-moving. These resins combine the strengths of both amorphous (P 8000) and crystalline (P 9000) polyesters, resolving the long-standing challenge of balancing flexibility with mechanical strength.
Laboratory testing demonstrates excellent results in durability, gloss retention, flexibility, and resistance to water spotting. Ongoing Florida outdoor exposure trials are expected to confirm long-term performance that surpasses conventional fluorocarbon systems such as PVDF and FEVE.
Industry Leaders Weigh In
“International regulations continue to drive the transformation of industrial materials,” said Tina Jin, Business Director of Powder Coating Resins Asia at Covestro. “Our next-generation resins merge environmental sustainability with high performance. After success in Europe since 2023, we are proud to now provide customer-centric services in Asia-Pacific through reliable local supply,” Jin added.
CF Tsai, Pingtung Site Manager, added, “Following six months of equipment upgrades, our vacuum process now meets the stringent quality standards required for these resins. As the first site in Asia-Pacific to produce them, Pingtung will not only serve regional customers but also support growing demand from North America.”
Superior Performance and Processing Advantages
The high flexibility of Uralac® Premium P 8000 and P 9000 increases coating impact resistance by over 100%, offering long-lasting protection for large outdoor assets while reducing long-term maintenance costs.
Equally important, these resins deliver processing efficiency. They cure at 180°C for 15 minutes—conditions compatible with standard powder coating lines—without requiring additional investment in equipment. Covestro also provides optimized formulations and processing support, ensuring consistently excellent results.
Driving Circularity and Climate Goals
As per the press release, with this expansion, Covestro is reinforcing its role as a pioneer in sustainable industrial materials. By integrating supply chain reliability with innovative resin technology, the company is contributing to international sustainability trends and advancing toward its Scope 1, 2, and 3 emission reduction targets. Ultimately, Covestro aims to realize its vision of becoming “Fully Circular”, ensuring that high-performance industrial coatings also support long-term environmental responsibility.
