Kopparthy in Kadapa district will soon emerge as a major industrial hub with the Andhra Pradesh government finalizing a 6,740-acre master plan under the Visakhapatnam–Chennai Industrial Corridor (VCIC). The plan earmarks 53% of the land exclusively for industries, setting the stage for large-scale investments and job creation.

Diverse Industrial Categories

The node will accommodate industries across four categories — red, orange, green, and white. In the red category, permissions have been cleared for 59 industries, including chemicals, automobiles, pharmaceuticals, life sciences, sugar, and mini power stations. The orange, green, and white categories will support a mix of medium- and low-impact industries. In addition, the plan provides dedicated zones for government offices, commercial centers, and residential spaces, ensuring a balanced ecosystem for industry and community development.

First Phase Investment and Infrastructure

The first phase of development will cover 2,596 acres and cost ₹1,264 crore in trunk infrastructure. The authorities will develop roads, utilities, and common facilities upfront to attract anchor industries and accelerate project implementation.

Three Industrial Nodes under VCIC

VCIC includes three industrial nodes—Kopparthy, Vizag, and Chittoor—spanning 33,000 acres. Developers will turn about 30% of this area into a ‘start-up’ zone to fast-track industrial activity. The government has backed VCIC with ₹5,000 crore worth of infrastructure projects and secured a ₹3,300 crore loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), disbursed in two tranches. Tranche-I projects worth ₹2,300 crore have already reached advanced stages, and authorities will complete some within the current financial year.

Sector-Specific Clusters in Vizag and Chittoor

In the Vizag zone, two large clusters are being developed:

*A bulk drug park (2,002 acres) with financial assistance from the Centre under the Department of Pharmaceuticals.

*A steel cluster, with 2,200 acres in Phase I and plans to expand by another 4,000 acres.

*The Chittoor node, covering the Srikalahasti–Yerpedu cluster, will focus on building major infrastructure and utilities across a 2,628-acre start-up area.

Synergy with Other Industrial Corridors

The Kopparthy node aligns with India’s broader industrial corridor strategy. The central government has also planned the Chennai–Bengaluru Industrial Corridor (CBIC), covering 560 km across Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka, aimed at driving integrated regional development.

Expanding Industrial Footprint in Andhra Pradesh

As reported by thehindubusinessline.com, beyond VCIC, Andhra Pradesh hosts another major node at Krishnapatnam North, spread over 10,834 acres. Developers are creating a 2,500-acre start-up area at an estimated cost of ₹2,139 crore, strengthening the state’s industrial base.
