In a transformative move for India’s digital infrastructure, Adani Enterprises, through its joint venture AdaniConneX, has joined hands with Google to build India’s largest AI data centre campus and green energy ecosystem in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The landmark collaboration aims to establish a global hub for artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and sustainable digital innovation. It will redefine India’s technological landscape.
Investment to Power India’s AI Ambitions
Google’s upcoming AI Hub in Visakhapatnam represents a multi-dimensional investment of approximately $15 billion over five years (2026–2030). The development will encompass gigawatt-scale data centre operations. A high-capacity subsea cable network and dedicated clean energy infrastructure will support it, handling the most demanding AI workloads. AdaniConneX and Airtel will realize the initiative. They will combine their global expertise in hyperscale data infrastructure, connectivity, and energy management to accelerate India’s AI readiness.
Building India’s Next-Generation AI Infrastructure
At the heart of the project lies a purpose-built AI data centre campus in Visakhapatnam that will significantly expand India’s compute and storage capacity. Google and AdaniConneX are jointly developing the facility. It will serve as a cornerstone for India’s AI transformation, supporting enterprise-scale innovation, advanced research, and generative AI applications across sectors. The partnership also includes substantial co-investments in power transmission lines and renewable energy generation. It further supports advanced energy storage systems across Andhra Pradesh. These projects will ensure 24×7 clean power for the data centre. They will also strengthen grid resilience and energy reliability across the state.
A Shared Vision for Sustainable Digital Growth
Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group, said, “The Adani Group is proud to partner with Google on this historic project that will define the future of India’s digital landscape. This is more than just an investment in infrastructure—it is an investment in the soul of a rising nation. Visakhapatnam is now set to become a global destination for technology, and we are thrilled to be the architects of this monumental journey.”
Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, emphasized, “To unlock India’s massive potential in the AI age, we are investing in the Google AI Hub, which will provide the foundation to drive growth and enable businesses, researchers, and creators to build and scale with AI. Working with Adani, we will bring our cutting-edge resources closer to communities and customers, helping them innovate and thrive globally.”
Boosting Regional and National Economic Growth
The AI hub and its supporting digital infrastructure are expected to drive significant economic growth in Visakhapatnam and Andhra Pradesh. This initiative will also benefit the nation at large. The project will catalyze job creation across technology, construction, data services, and clean energy sectors, generating tens of thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities. As per the company press release, the collaboration goes beyond infrastructure. It reinforces a broader vision: driving digital inclusion, empowering communities, and positioning India as a global leader in sustainable AI innovation.
