Grasim Industries announced the commencement of commercial production at its Birla Opus paints facility in Kharagpur, West Bengal, marking the completion of all six greenfield plants under its ambitious decorative paints expansion program. This milestone establishes a strong nationwide manufacturing footprint for the company’s paints business.
Boosting Production Capacity to 1,332 MLPA
With the Kharagpur plant now operational, Grasim’s total installed capacity has reached 1,332 million litres per annum (MLPA). This enhanced capacity positions Birla Opus to efficiently cater to India’s fast-growing decorative paints market and strengthen its competitiveness in the sector.
Phased Commissioning Strategy
Grasim noted that the resin manufacturing block at the Kharagpur facility will be commissioned in the next phase. Until then, solvent-based paint production will continue using resin sourced from other Birla Opus locations, ensuring uninterrupted operations and product supply.
Strategic Milestone in Grasim’s Paints Journey
With all six greenfield plants now commercially live, Grasim has reached a key scale-up milestone in its paints venture. As reported by businessupturn.com, the company’s integrated manufacturing network reflects its strategic intent to deliver high-quality decorative paints across India while driving innovation, efficiency, and customer reach under the Birla Opus brand.
