India unveiled a major initiative to strengthen its research and innovation ecosystem through the launch of the India Reimagined Fellowship — a global program designed to bring exceptional scientific and professional talent to the country.
A Global Fellowship for Transformative Research
The India Reimagined Fellowship, launched by Blockchain for Impact (BFI), offers a grant of USD 300,000 (approximately ₹2.5 crore) over three years to researchers, clinicians, entrepreneurs, and innovators of Indian or international origin who are willing to relocate to India. The fellowship aims to help participants build sustainable “impact engines” that address pressing challenges in biomedical science and public health. By combining international expertise with India’s expanding scientific infrastructure, the initiative seeks to catalyze innovation that delivers measurable social and health outcomes.
Institutional Nomination and Structured Funding
In a bid to ensure accountability and institutional commitment, the fellowship is open only through institutional nominations, not individual applications. Each selected fellow will receive funding in three annual tranches of approximately ₹88 lakh each. The funds will be disbursed directly to the host institution in India, covering project implementation, laboratory expenses, salaries, travel, and equipment costs. Only FCRA-approved institutions are eligible to host fellows, and they must establish a dedicated project account while submitting annual progress and financial reports to maintain funding continuity.
Transparent Review and Selection Process
The fellowship follows a structured nomination and selection process:
- Identify a Candidate – The host institution nominates a qualified researcher or innovator abroad willing to relocate to India.
- Institutional Commitment – The host institution provides necessary infrastructure, manages funds, and ensures compliance.
- Prepare Nomination Package – Include the nominee’s CV, a 10-page research proposal, recommendation letters, and a commitment letter from the institution.
- Submit Application – Email the complete nomination to india.reimagined@blockchainforimpact.nl by January 31, 2026.
Selections will be made on a rolling basis, with decisions announced within 12 weeks of submission.
Fostering Innovation and Collaboration
With only three fellowships available, the program aims to attract high-impact talent capable of driving innovation, entrepreneurship, and institutional capacity-building within India. The India Reimagined Fellowship links global expertise with domestic research ecosystems. It underscores the country’s determination to become a global hub for biomedical and public health innovation. As reported by indiatoday.in, the initiative boosts India’s scientific capabilities. It also highlights the country’s commitment to building world-class research infrastructure, fostering collaboration, and advancing solutions for global health challenges.
