Narayana Health Expands into the UK with Full Acquisition of Practice Plus Group

Narayana Health has made a decisive move into the United Kingdom’s healthcare sector with the 100% acquisition of Practice Plus Group Hospitals for £188.78 million. The landmark deal marks the Bengaluru-based hospital chain’s first foray into the British market and its second international expansion, following the establishment of Health City Cayman Islands in the Caribbean.

The acquisition comes after Narayana Health had explored other UK opportunities, including reported discussions with Spire Healthcare Group Plc, the country’s largest private healthcare provider by revenue. Ultimately, the company chose Practice Plus Group, acquiring 60,001 equity shares at £3,146.29 per share (face value £0.02 each).

Expanding Reach Through a Robust Network

Practice Plus Group operates a comprehensive network of 16 healthcare facilities across the UK. This includes:

*Seven hospitals

*Three surgical centres

*Two urgent treatment centres

*Three musculoskeletal and diagnostic centres

*One ophthalmology centre

Together, these facilities have a combined capacity of 330 beds and perform approximately 80,000 surgeries annually. The group reported an estimated turnover of £250 million in FY25 (ending September 2025), underscoring its strong presence in the UK’s healthcare delivery ecosystem.

Tapping into Rising Demand for Private Surgeries

With this acquisition, Narayana Health gains access to the rapidly expanding UK private healthcare market. The growth is driven by rising surgical backlogs and capacity constraints in the National Health Service (NHS). As patients increasingly turn to private options for timely care, this move positions Narayana Health strategically. It enables the group to meet the rising demand for accessible and high-quality surgical services.

Shared Commitment to Affordable, Quality Healthcare

Dr. Devi Prasad Shetty, Founder and Chairman of Narayana Health, emphasized, “Like Narayana Health, Practice Plus Group recognized that the majority of patients struggle to access timely care, while only a small minority can afford premium private treatment. Both our organizations are focused on bridging this gap—delivering affordable, quality healthcare that remains accessible to all”.

Strengthening Global Footprint and Healthcare Equity

As reported by thehindubusinessline.com, Narayana Health plans to integrate Practice Plus Group’s UK expertise with its own high-volume, efficiency-driven care model. This collaboration aims to reshape the accessibility and affordability of private healthcare in the United Kingdom. This strategic expansion highlights Narayana Health’s evolving role as a global healthcare leader. The company continues to champion value-based, patient-centered medical care across borders.
