Vikram Solar commissioned its 5 GW advanced solar module manufacturing facility at Vallam in Tamil Nadu, marking a significant milestone in India’s clean energy manufacturing ecosystem. The Kolkata-based company, a leading solar module manufacturer, is also planning to expand its footprint further with its upcoming Gangaikondan facility in the State.
Expansion Plans
The company aims to commission 6 GW module capacity at Gangaikondan in the fourth quarter of this fiscal year. Additionally, the company plans to install a total of 12 GW cell manufacturing capacity at the same facility and complete it in phases by the end of the next financial year. It estimates a total capital investment of ₹6,200 crore for the Gangaikondan plant.
“The Gangaikondan facility will house both module and cell manufacturing operations. The plant will be commissioned with 6 GW module capacity in Q4FY26,” said Gyanesh Chaudhary, Chairman and Managing Director, Vikram Solar. He added, “The 12 GW cell manufacturing capacity will be installed in phases: first 3 GW in Q3FY27, followed by 9 GW in Q4FY27.”
A Leap in Technology and Scale
With the Vallam commissioning, Vikram Solar now commands a total module manufacturing capacity of 9.5 GW, reinforcing its role as a top-tier, scale-driven player in the solar sector. Vikram Solar designed the Vallam facility as a future-ready, large-scale manufacturing hub that integrates advanced automation and robotics. Features include:
*Intelligent material handling systems
*Comprehensive built-in quality checks
*Fully automated packaging
The automation architecture improves precision, accelerates throughput, strengthens reliability, and sets a new benchmark for operational excellence. The plant uses advanced TOPCon technology and enables seamless HJT upgrades. It also supports M10, G12, and G12R formats, underscoring Vikram Solar’s commitment to future-ready technology leadership.
Strengthening Tamil Nadu’s Clean Energy Ecosystem
“The commissioning of Vallam strengthens Vikram Solar’s commitment to Tamil Nadu’s clean-energy manufacturing ecosystem,” the company said. The plant complements Vikram Solar’s existing Oragadam facility. It also follows the foundation ceremony of the upcoming Gangaikondan unit. This underscores the company’s long-term strategy to anchor advanced solar manufacturing in one of India’s fastest-growing renewable energy hubs.
Delivering on Scale, Speed, and Innovation
“Vallam is a defining milestone for Vikram Solar and for India’s solar manufacturing story,” said Chaudhary. “Commissioning this 5 GW facility within the year demonstrates our readiness for the scale, speed, and innovation the next decade demands.” As reported by thehindubusinessline.com, modules from the Vallam facility will supply customers across India. They will support utility-scale developers, C&I customers, and distributed generation projects. This will help the nation accelerate toward its ambitious renewable energy targets.
