Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) completed a comprehensive modernisation of its Vadinar–Bina crude oil pipeline, reinforcing national energy security and ensuring uninterrupted crude transportation amid rising domestic energy demand and evolving cyber security threats.
Critical National Asset Supporting Refinery Operations
Stretching 937 km, the Vadinar–Bina cross-country pipeline serves as a vital national asset, supplying crude oil to BPCL’s Bina Refinery. With a throughput capacity of 7.8 million metric tons per annum (MMTPA), the pipeline plays a central role in maintaining stable refinery operations and supporting India’s growing energy needs.
Focus on Automation, Monitoring, and Cyber Security
As part of the modernisation programme, BPCL upgraded automation, real-time monitoring, and cyber security systems across the entire pipeline network. These enhancements have strengthened network protection and improved system resilience. They also enable centralised monitoring of pipeline operations, allowing faster detection and response to potential risks.
Seamless Execution Without Operational Disruptions
Importantly, BPCL executed the entire upgrade without any operational shutdowns. The company maintained continuous pipeline operations throughout the transition, ensuring an uninterrupted supply of crude oil to the Bina Refinery. It also seamlessly integrated advanced digital and cyber security capabilities.
Strengthening Energy Infrastructure for the Future
As reported by timesofindia.indiatimes.com, BPCL has successfully completed the project. The company has strengthened its pipeline infrastructure to meet future energy demand and tackle emerging cyber and operational risks. The modernised Vadinar–Bina Pipeline is now better equipped to support reliable, secure, and resilient crude oil transportation across the country.
