Global technology player ABB is strengthening its manufacturing presence in Karnataka with significant new investments in advanced facilities and technology infrastructure. The expansion includes greenfield campuses, new shopfloors, product line extensions, service and training centers, and precision equipment manufacturing across ABB’s Electrification, Motion, and Automation businesses. The developments reinforce ABB’s long-term commitment to India while supporting high-growth sectors such as energy, digital infrastructure, and industrial automation.

New Motion Facility in Peenya

As part of the expansion, Morten Wierod led the ground-breaking ceremony for a new integrated Motion manufacturing facility at Peenya. The facility will expand ABB’s production capabilities and strengthen its ability to supply energy-efficient motor technologies for industries across India. Spanning 6,100 square meters, the campus will eventually employ up to 300 people and produce a wide range of high-efficiency motors. These include flameproof (Ex) motors, roller table variants, large smoke ventilation motors, low-voltage drives, and programmable logic controllers (PLCs). In addition, the site will feature a service and training center equipped with digital tools and remote diagnostics, enabling ABB to support customers throughout the entire equipment lifecycle.

Nelamangala Campus Strengthens Electrification and Automation

ABB also inaugurated the Electrification and Automation Nelamangala Campus 2 on Kunigal Road in Bengaluru. The 16,470-square-meter multi-business manufacturing hub will expand production across several critical technology segments. The campus will significantly expand power management solutions for data centers, with production expected to increase nearly tenfold. ABB’s low- and medium-voltage technologies already support more than 30% of India’s hyperscale data centers, strengthening the company’s position in the digital infrastructure sector.

Supporting “Make in India” and Industrial Innovation

The Nelamangala facility will also play a key role in ABB’s innovation-driven “Make in India” strategy. The campus will manufacture blending and excitation solutions for industries such as lubricants, paints, paper, and pulp. Additionally, the site will include advanced assembly lines for pigging line valves and automation staging cabinets. It will also conduct on-site factory acceptance tests (FAT) to ensure high reliability and efficiency in industrial operations. High-power rectifiers produced at the facility will serve customers in chemical and metals industries, while also expanding into regional export markets.

Significant Investments

ABB recently announced a $75 million investment for 2026 aimed at expanding manufacturing and research capabilities in key sectors. The investment follows ABB’s $35 million spending in 2025, highlighting the company’s continued focus on strengthening its “local-for-local” manufacturing strategy in India.

Bengaluru: A Strategic Technology Hub

ABB has maintained a strong presence in Bengaluru for decades, making the city one of its most important manufacturing and technology centers in the country. With the latest expansion, ABB will operate three manufacturing locations with multiple shopfloors in Karnataka, employing more than 3,000 people across its production facilities. According to Sanjeev Sharma, Country Head and Managing Director, ABB India, the expansion demonstrates ABB’s long-term commitment to India. He noted that strengthening manufacturing and technology capabilities in Karnataka will bring advanced ABB technologies closer to customers while enabling industries to improve energy efficiency, digitize operations, and support India’s infrastructure growth.

Strengthening Karnataka’s Industrial Ecosystem

Karnataka has long been a hub for technology talent, manufacturing expertise, and research and development. ABB’s latest investments will further strengthen the state’s industrial ecosystem by expanding local manufacturing capacity, developing specialized technical skills, and supporting regional supplier networks. As per the press release, as India accelerates industrial growth and digital transformation, ABB’s expanded footprint in Karnataka positions the company to play a crucial role in powering the next generation of energy-efficient and automated industries.
