OIL Boosts Rajasthan Crude Output to Record Levels

Oil India Limited (OIL) reported a significant increase in crude oil production from its operations in Rajasthan’s Thar Desert, achieving a record output of 1,202 barrels per day. The production surge represents a seventy percent increase compared with the previous year, underscoring the company’s efforts to strengthen domestic oil output amid ongoing uncertainties in global energy markets. The achievement highlights Oil India’s growing role in supporting India’s energy security and reducing dependence on imported crude oil.

Advanced Recovery Techniques Drive Output Growth

The sharp rise in production has largely been driven by the adoption of advanced oil recovery technologies. In particular, Oil India has deployed Cyclic Steam Stimulation (CSS), a technique designed to enhance oil recovery from challenging reservoirs. Through this method, steam is injected into the reservoir to heat and thin heavy crude oil, making it easier to extract. As a result, the technology has helped the company improve production efficiency despite the complex geological conditions of the Thar Desert. Officials noted that the successful implementation of such technologies demonstrates OIL’s capability to operate effectively in difficult terrain while improving output levels.

Baghewala Oil Field Emerges as Innovation Hub

The Baghewala oil field in Rajasthan has become a key centre for technological innovation within Oil India’s operations. The company has introduced several modern drilling and extraction techniques to maximise production from the field.

Among the key technologies deployed are:

*Fishbone drilling, which allows multiple lateral wells to branch out from a main borehole, increasing reservoir contact.

*Electric downhole heaters, which help maintain reservoir temperatures and improve the flow of crude oil.

These technologies have significantly enhanced extraction efficiency and contributed to the recent increase in production.

Supporting India’s Energy Security

The production boost from the Thar Desert comes at a time when India continues to focus on strengthening domestic oil and gas output. By improving production from existing fields, Oil India aims to reduce the country’s reliance on imported crude oil and improve long-term energy security. Officials emphasised that continued investment in advanced recovery technologies and innovative drilling methods will remain central to the company’s strategy. As reported by devdiscourse.com, as OIL expands its operations and enhances production capabilities, initiatives such as those at the Baghewala field are expected to play an important role in strengthening India’s domestic energy landscape.
