MPL to Restart Plant One Operations as Propylene Supply Resumes

Manali Petrochemicals Limited (MPL) announced plans to restart its Plant-1 facility in Manali, Chennai, following the restoration of propylene supply through government allocation. The move marks a crucial step toward normalizing operations after a temporary shutdown.

Government Facilitates Feedstock Allocation

The department of pharmaceuticals under the ministry of chemicals and fertilizers has allocated propylene to the company. The supply will be provided by Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited (CPCL). The decision comes after a revised official memorandum enabled the resumption of feedstock supply, ensuring that MPL can restart its production activities.

Phased Restart of Facility One Operations

The restart process will begin once the allocated propylene is received. Operations at the Plant-1 facility are expected to resume gradually in a phased manner, ensuring stability and operational efficiency. This structured approach will allow the company to safely ramp up production while aligning with supply availability.

Background: Shutdown Triggered by Supply Disruption

Plant-1 operations had been temporarily suspended in March after CPCL halted propylene supply. The stoppage followed a directive from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. Since propylene is a critical raw material and is sourced exclusively from CPCL, the disruption forced the company to declare a force majeure condition, halting production activities.

Force Majeure Situation Resolved

With the government’s intervention and fresh allocation in place, MPL confirmed that the force majeure situation has now been resolved, at least in terms of feedstock availability. As a result, the company is now positioned to restore normal operations and meet market demand more effectively.

Outlook: Return to Operational Stability

The resumption of propylene supply not only enables the restart of Plant-1 but also strengthens supply chain reliability for the company. As reported by projectstoday.ai, the development is expected to support steady production, improve operational continuity, and reinforce Manali Petrochemicals’ position in the petrochemical sector.
