Sulzer Forms Libya JV to Strengthen Local Rotating Equipment Services

Sulzer has formed a strategic joint venture with Jawaby Services & Investments Ltd (JSIL), a subsidiary of National Oil Corporation (NOC), to expand in-country rotating equipment services across Libya’s energy and industrial sectors. The new entity, Jawaby Sulzer Services, will establish a state-of-the-art service facility in the Misrata Free Zone, near Tripoli.

Strengthening Local Service Capabilities

The upcoming facility will support oil and gas, power generation, and industrial operators with comprehensive services, including maintenance and repair, engineering and re-engineering and equipment rehabilitation. Importantly, all services will be delivered in line with international OEM standards, ensuring reliability and performance.

Reducing Dependence on Overseas Servicing

Until now, Libyan operators have relied heavily on overseas service providers for critical equipment such as pumps, turbines, compressors and generators. As a result, companies have faced extended turnaround times, higher costs, and operational risks. However, this joint venture aims to eliminate these bottlenecks by enabling localized, full-scope service delivery within Libya for the first time.

Combining Global Expertise with Local Strength

The partnership brings together Sulzer’s global technical expertise in rotating equipment and JSIL’s strong local market presence. Consequently, the JV is well-positioned to deliver efficient, high-quality, and timely services tailored to Libya’s industrial needs.

Alex Myers, Regional President (India, Middle East & CIS) at Sulzer Services, emphasized that the initiative marks a significant step in strengthening the company’s regional footprint. He noted that embedding global standards within Libya will support operational stability and long-term industrial growth.

Driving Localization and Economic Development

Dr. Ahmed Ibrahim ElBadri, Executive Manager of JSIL, highlighted that the collaboration goes beyond service delivery. According to him, the venture will build local technical capabilities, generate skilled employment opportunities, support Libyan suppliers and industries and retain critical expertise within the country. Thus, the JV aligns with Libya’s broader goal of localizing energy sector capabilities and reducing external dependency.

Outlook: Enabling Sustainable Industrial Growth

With the launch of Jawaby Sulzer Services, Libya is set to strengthen its industrial resilience and service infrastructure. As reported by worldpumps.com, by combining global engineering excellence with local execution, the initiative is expected to enhance efficiency, reduce downtime, and support sustainable growth across key sectors.
